Matsumoto was intrigued about her new surroundings. She enjoyed the car ride and was reluctant to get out. She wanted to hang her head out of the window when she was feeling better, to see what it was like. She had seen dogs being driven around in town and they always had their heads out of the windows.
Slowly, she got out of the car, it hurt her leg a little but the pain was nowhere near as bad as it had been the day before. The collie wondered what this place was like, and whether she would enjoy it there or not. Matsumoto wondered if Emily was going to be her new owner, but then one thing struck her, were there men around? She whimpered slightly, but knew that Emily would protect her and make sure that she didn't get harmed. The collie considered the woman a friend now, she had got her out of the harsh situation she had been in when she lived in Nome.

Emily kept the leash and collar on Mattie, just to make sure she didn't wander off. Emily knew the woods were littered with wolves, bears and cougars, which isn't a good thing for a city dog to encounter on her first day in the wilderness.
Emily shifted her backpack and walked across the road and into the forest. There was no visible trail, but Emily knew where she was going. She didn't want to make the trail to her cabin too visible to the public. She wanted to keep her home private and isolated. The trees were very tall and the trunks were huge in this part of the forest, with little or no under brush.
Soon Emily walked onto a narrow footpath that ran along a stream. She walked down a rather rocky and steep hill, then around a bend. There sat her two storey log cabin. She was happy to be home and was looking forward to a warm cup of tea. "Here we are girl" She said, giving the dog a pat on the head.

Matsumoto was glad that they were going slowly, because it was still hard for her to walk properly, even though she was feeling better. As soon as they rounded the bend she was shocked, this place was beautiful. She had lived in the woods before with her old owner, but the land was nowhere near as lovely as this, and it made her happy. The collie felt like she was making a fresh start, as the land was so much different. The air was also much fresher than it was in Nome, but that was to be expected as there were no cars around.
She began to tug on the lead, wanting to get off and go and explore. She was not doing it to try and pull Emily over, she still did not have all her strength back so she wouldn't be able to anyway, but she wanted to roam around and get a feel for her new surroundings.

Emily took a deep breath to take in the fresh country air. The sun was high in the sky above the mountains, which stood on each side of the cabin. There was a pond with a small waterfall, which was formed by a beaver dam. She decided that she could trust the dog, and removed her leash to let her explore her new home.
Emily walked up on the small veranda, and opened the cabin door which was never locked. She put her stuff on the couch and flopped down in her favorite chair. It was so good to be home, especially with a new friend. She smiled to herself and looked out her big picture window into a field which was off to the side of an old barn, which hadn't been occupied by livestock in over ten years. After she was relaxed, she got up and went to the kitchen, getting dog food from under the sink and water from the tap. She put it down for Matsumoto.

Matsumoto was pleased that she had been taken off the lead, she felt almost free. She walked around and into the cabin, wanting to look inside the building first before she went out into the surrounding area. It felt cosy when she walked inside, and it was nice and warm.
The collie saw the bowls that had been palced down for her and she immediately went over to them and started to eat the dog food. She preferred this to the crackers that she had eaten, and it wasn't long before she had polished off the dish.
Deciding that she was full, she drank some water and walked over to Emily. She wondered if she was allowed on the furniture, and put one of her front paws on Emily's thigh. The collie was used to going on furniture, but this was a new home and the woman had been kind enough to take her in and she was going to be on her best behaviour.

Emily was pleased that Mattie seemed to have a good appetite. She sat on the couch and stroked the dog's head as it approached her. She really liked this dog very much. She jestured to her that it was alright to get on the couch beside her.
Thick white paws padded the dry, brown earth as the canine made his sly approach to the cabin. Grey and white fur shone brightly in the sun and reflected off his white ivories as his maw gapped to take in the smells around him. It was clear to Trapper's senses that the cabin was now occupied with both dog and human. He stayed in the brush, not wanting to be seen just yet.
Trapper was a Siberian Husky that had escaped from his owner's house and decided to try living in the forest. He was badly treated, and had been destined to a meaningless life of dog shows and sledding. He had been sleeping in the wood shed behind the cabin, and had made a temporary den there. He picked up his fresh kill and loped from the cover of the forest to the shed, doing his best not to be detected.

Matsumoto barked happily and got up on the couch, it was nice and comfortable. She was already happy with her new life, and she had only been with Emily for a couple of days. It seemed that all was not lost, and she was going to be as happy as she once was, and she may even be treated better than when she lived with her old owner. The collie wondered what the forest was like, but she didn't feel brave enough to explore there yet because she had only just arrive and wouldn't be able to run from danger if she encountered it because her leg was still recovering.
After a while she decided she would go on the verander and take in the fresh forest air. The loved it there already, and as she lay down, she looked out at the landscape, seeing what she could see and thinking about all the places that she could possibly explore. Her new life was going to be great, Matsumoto just knew it.

Trapper made it to the shed without being seen. The scent of human and dog was strong on the air, and Trapper knew that their arrival had been not too long ago. Tags jingled from his collar as he lie down in the shed to eat. He delicately tore into his prey, rd juices staining his white muzzle. He savored his catch and ate everything that appealed to him. He curled up on a pile of rags in the corner, paws under his chin as he daydreamed, staring at the cabin.
Movement caught his attention and he snapped out of his dream land. A collie stood on the veranda, and Trapper tilted his head questioningly. Was this dog the human's pet? He stood up and walked out of shed and padded across the yard carefully. He could only scent the femme, but was prepared for an ambush. He knew he would be detected eventually. He sat down and stared at the fae, not sure how to properly introduce himself. He was hoping that she wouldn't sound the alarm.

It didn't take Matsumoto long to smell the presence of another, and the fur immedately went up on her back, what if it was hostile? She turned her head slowly and saw the creature that she could smell, another dog. Did this dog live here too? That question soon went out of her mind when she saw traces of red on it's maw...a wild dog?! She had never heard of such a thing.
Deciding it might be best to say something, but stay where she was for safety, she stood up and turned around to fully face the husky.
Hi there, why are you on Emily's lands? she asked politely, she didn't know if he came here a lot of it he had just wandered here by accident. She was a peaceful collie, and she always tried to use words instead of claws, it always worked out so much better for both parties that way.

Trapper stood in a neutral position as the fae turned to face him. He was surprised that she hadn't caught his scent before now. Maybe she had, but chose to ignore him. He could feel that she was somewhat uncertain about her surroundings, which made him feel like she was less of a threat than he had originally thought.
"What am I doing here? I was going to ask you the same thing. My name is Trapper, and I've been living in the shed out back for the past few days. I had come to believe this cabin was deserted, but clearly I now see I was wrong. "I also scent that there is a human with you. Does she treat you well? Are you new here?" He asked, mind heavy with questions. He hoped that the collie was friendly. Trapper didn't really feel like fighting today, although he definately wouldn't give in, if it came to that.

Matsumoto stared at the brute called Trapper, he obviously had a lot of questions, and it seemed that he had not just stumbled onto the land but he knew it well. She decided to take his question one at a time, but thought that it would be best to introduce herself, just as he had done.
My name is Matsumoto. Pleased to meet you. Yes, there is a human with me, called Emily, and she treats me very well. She rescued me from the streets of Nome, and helped to save my leg, which got wounded by male humans on the streets at night. I am new here, but I do not know if Emily is or not. This is my first day here, but I do not want to explore with my leg still wounded. Do you not have an owner? I have not seen many wild dogs, even while I was in Nome. she said, and waited for Trapper to answer.

Trapper sat before the fae, taking in every word of her story. He wasn't sure whether to trust her, or a believe one word of her story for that matter. Trapper thought about the situation and relaxed. It would be a weird story for a dog to make up, and she would have attacked by now. He brought his tail down from the defensive position.
It was now time for him to answer her questions. "No Ma'am, I do not have an owner. I did at one time, and I still have the brass tags to show it. My owner was cruel, but luckily I escaped." He explained, not wanting to bring back the memories. "I guess I could be considered wild, but I've never thought of it like that. I've been living out here for the past four months." He explained.

Four months was not a long time, but it was still long enough to get killed in the wilderness. Thankfully, that had not happened to Trapper, as she hated the sight of dead creatures. In a way, she felt sorry for Trapper, as she had been abused herself, but did not have the bravery to go out into the woods and instead confined herself to the city of Nome.
I am sorry to hear that your owner was cruel. My old owner was too, but Emily is much nicer. She has done nothing but help me, and I will always be grateful to her and protect her for the rest of my days. Why don't you meet her? I am sure she will love you. she said, wondering if the husky was interested. She hoped so, as Emily would be able to give him all that he needed and he would no longer have to survive in the wild.
